September

September

September is filled with darkness and light.

I am excited to be back to work with a new group of second and third graders. It’s always hard to give up all the extra time for writing and event planning that summer brings, but having a steady paycheck again is a necessity. I’m looking forward to cool autumn nights and fewer damn mosquitoes.

The first week of September has been frought with challenges. Among them is my tendency to get in my own way as often as possible. I have been querying My Mother Road since the middle of March, and, while I’ve had great feedback, I’m still unrepresented.

Last week, the agent I have been secretly holding out hope for passed on my book. I tried to stay strong and positive, but when I was failing to fall asleep it got the best of me. So, I did what any uninsured Gen X-er would do - I whined on Facebook.

The next day’s virtual walk of shame did not disappoint. Friends and family have been beyond supportive. They have offered everything from kind words and helpful advice to pumpkin spice lattes. I love them - the people and the PSL.

The publishing world is brutal. It has to be, I guess. I have enlisted my amazing husband’s talents in helping me rewrite and begin the querying process again. What’s six months in the course of one life?

Thank you to everyone that has helped me to keep my sanity during the process of writing and querying. I couldn’t do it without you!
