Our Authors

Phyllis York

Phyllis York is an author, blogger, and unapologetic fan girl. She lives in the Ozarks, but loves traveling - especially on Route 66. York is a four time winner of NaNoWriMo, and the author of many novels, articles, and Yelp reviews. She is currently querying agents and writing her next novel. When not writing, she works with specially challenged children as a paraprofessional in the local school system.

Joyce Ragland

Joyce Ragland grew up on a post-WWII modernized dairy farm, but could hardly wait to escape. "Get out and make something of yourself," her mother urged. At age seventeen, Ragland fled. With four university degrees, professor gigs in three states and one Canadian province, after thirty-six years, she decided it was time to officially retire and write for fun. After two academic books and various articles, short stories, and poetry published during the academic career, she turned to creative nonfiction and fiction for YA and adult audiences. She now lives in Lebanon, Missouri with two rescue dogs, Bessie Jo and Opie Jo.

Fines Massey and Chris Burgess

Fines is a comic book writer and newspaper editor. C.H.A.R.L.13 is available now and he has more projects in the works.

Chris is a comic book writer, gamer, and is currently at work on new projects.

Steve Wiegenstein

Steve was born and raised in the eastern Missouri Ozarks -- his folks grew up on adjoining farms, and their family roots go deep in Madison, Iron, and Reynolds counties.
He’s an avid canoer, rafter, and kayaker on Missouri's float streams.....a longtime member, friend, and supporter of the Quincy, Illinois, Unitarian Church.....a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.....a hiker (ok, make that walker).....a former president and board member of the Missouri Writers' Guild. I find pennies on the sidewalk more frequently than anyone I know

Laura Valenti

Laura L. Valenti lives near Bennett Spring, Missouri and her first two novels, "The Heart of the Spring" and "The Heart of the Spring Lives On" are based on the history of the famous state park. Her third novel, "Between the Star and the Cross: The Choice" tells the story of a small town county sheriff and the Salvadoran woman who comes to his town to run the Christian mission there. Based in great part on her many years with the local sheriff's department, the sequel "The Election" was released in June 2012. "The Election" continues the story of Sheriff Dale Harper and Milagro Palacios as the sheriff struggles with the challenges of a re-election campaign that is plagued with political hot potatoes and small town politics. Milagro, once again, suggests a spiritual response which catches Sheriff Harper off guard, and yet he is intrigued. All four of her novels have been well-received and continue to sell. A long time freelance and historical writer, Laura, a former Peace Corps volunteer in El Salvador enjoys travel, writing fiction and non-fiction and keeping up with her husband, grown children and five grandsons.

Chelle Renee

Chelle Renee is, first and foremost, a lover and maker of words. She doesn’t remember a time when she didn’t write, and this passion has led to several of her poems being published in magazines and websites. In 2007, she won the Missouri Health Care Association Essay contest. It was a fitting award, given her eighteen years of experience in health care.

When she isn’t writing, she works as a nurse in a residential care facility, and she and her husband of 19 years live in the beautiful Ozarks.
